Get Training for Man Lift Operations

Man lifts, also known as scissor lifts, aerial lifts, and Genie lifts, are aerial equipment machines that are designed to vertically lift and lower a person. These types of aerial lift rentals are often used in industrial businesses to enable workers to reach very high places in a safe manner. Due to a risk of accident and injury, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration requires training for these types of lifts. Such training is often provided by the employer, but this training can also be obtained from an outside company. 

First, ask your employer if the company offers training. Many companies offer on-site training to new employees, but if your company does not provide this service, your employer may recommend a training program for you to attend. Ask your employer for the exact make and model of the man lift you’ll use on the job. Generally, the company doing the training will try to provide that exact man lift or a similar one during training.

Man lift training will show you how to use the man lift, and train you on the proper safety precautions for the type of man lift you’ll be working on. Training isn’t the end of the line, either. After training, practice using the man lift with supervision from your employer or trainer. 

 Once you have completed your man lift training course, you will receive a certification indicating that you can safely operate the man lift used by your employer. Then you can play your part in making the workplace safer for everyone.

Ken Myers to Head Skyjack Company

Canadian aerial lift manufacturer Skyjack has a new president. Shortly following the unexpected departure of previous president Steve Shaughnessy, the company announced that Ken Myers will serve as the new president. Skyjack hasn’t released an official statement regarding the departure, and perhaps even more unexpected, Shaughnessy is still serving as the president of the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF).

The IPAF doesn’t seem any the wiser themselves, releasing the following statement:

“The International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) confirms that Steve Shaughnessy has agreed to continue his term of office as IPAF President despite his changed professional situation. The changes and implications were reviewed at a teleconference of the IPAF Board held on 18 October 2010. The Board was keen that Steve Shaughnessy should continue as IPAF President and it was agreed that he will carry out these duties until the matter can be reviewed at the next scheduled meeting of the IPAF Council.”

Regardless of the unexpected shakeup, many are looking forward to the leadership of Myers, who is graduating to the role from acting as the group president of Linamar’s powertrain division.

“We believe that this appointment will offer significant benefits both to the organization and to our customers who have come to depend upon Skyjack as synonymous with quality and innovation in the aerial lift market,” Linamar Chief Operating Officer Jim Jarrell said.
